Are we at a disadvantage?
« Reply #-1 on: September 28, 2016, 07:03:40 PM »
Do you ever feel that being able to cook as we do that it sort of makes going out to eat not as enjoyable? It's not that I am an Iron Chef, I am not Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsey or Emeril but I feel that I cook better food than what I can buy from 99% of places I eat at. I almost miss the days when I could go out and be happy with the meal I just paid for. It's sad in a way, lol.
A revolving door of cookers and smokers. Some are keepers, some are here today, gone tomorrow!

I don't lay claim to any of those fantastic chefs but I would much rather eat my own cooking, whether it is BBQ or anything else, than go out and eat. Now my wife loves my cooking, but she loves to try out different restaurants when she is out and about.  Not that I don't mind restaurant food, I just feel that for what we pay for a meal for 2 people we could have had quite a few homemade meals. Yep I am cheap like that!  ;)

Totally agree... we would rather not pay 125 for 2 people for awesome steaks when I could spent $40-50 and get a really good one.  I have realized that most of the food is frozen - but when traveling we will look for something out of the ordinary.

That said, my wife has complained about my comments when we are out.  I tend to be too picky, and after working in the business for quite a few years when I was younger, I am rarely blown away these days.

Every once in a while we like to go out for breakfast on Sundays. Wendy is such a good cook, I love staying home and eating her cooking. Every once in a while I pull something good off one of the pits  ;)

I am not in all of your leagues with cooking but I can cook better then many places I can go too. But I also do like Indian, & other foods from nations across the globe. Things I will not cook at home. I also come from a great pizza state add in NY & it is hard to compete with these places.

I also feel there is eating & there is dining. A good restaurant on the water or in the mountains makes food taste better. It is nice to dine at times.

As far as tailgating I like my food & my friends food better then what you can get inside or outside a stadium.

I am also cheap if not it would be a toss up.

I have a birthday coming up soon and my wife wanted to know where I wanted to go for dinner.  Damn the budget!  I told her I am strongly considering cooking my own dinner rather than go out.  For that same money I can cook a real treat for the two of us.  I just don't know what I want to cook.  Any ideas???

I can definitely relate.  A good example is steak.  I rarely ever order steak out anywhere.  Whenever anyone asks me, "Where do you go around here for a really good steak?" my reply is always, "To the butcher shop, then home!"  8)

Are kidding me? Never had a McRib? You don't know what you are missing it is the greatest, the sauce, the bun and the pickle! It's the best ever!  I'll drive at least 2 minutes out of my way to have it!

Sort of agree.  Sweetie will not eat a steak out as she says "ours are always tastier".  Also, Sweetie being a fishing boat Captain's daughter makes seafood unmatched in any restaurant so far.

Other than that all the fine dining restaurant food is better than we can cook.

As far as McDonald's goes, unlike other cities we travel in, McDonalds in Savannah is well almost a cut above C rations.

I understand the cooking at home is better, you should see me at the campground..we have a very limited selection in Lima. Only a couple of good restaurants and a great pizza place, Uncle Al's a couple of miles from the campground..or I make my  own. But it nice to go out every once in a while and let someone else cook.  .☆´¯`•.¸¸. ི♥ྀ.
