All is not lost but I am afraid her return as a cruise ship...sank today

http://www.ssusc.org/a-statement-from-conservancy-executive-director-susan-gibbs/

A little bit of this country was saved today

I woke up today to the great news.....I am as happy as one can be. I sailed on her as a kid. I was on her as a rusted out ship two years ago (first time in years) . I have given money to her.....people thought she was dead......But they could not kill her the greatest ship ever built will sail again....I only hope I can afford the ticket LOL.......I love the plans they have for her...get my deck chair ready. Wow this makes me happy!

I am so happy now!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot but I feel this is one of those things that make this country great

How cool it would be to boatgate from the stern.......I would need a rail mount. LOL

Cool Beans! We returned from Europe on the SS United States in 1962. My first cruise (although dee occasionally claims he saw me on the Santa Maria when he was welcoming Columbus to the 'hood).
Everyone is entitled to my opinion

Same here in 1964...went over on the Big U & came back on the Queen Elizabeth 1   Best part of the trip to Europe for me as a kid.

Santa Maria Hmmm does Dee have pictures to prove that ;) ;) ;)

I didn't see anything in the Philadelphia Inquirer about this today.  Maybe it will be tomorrow, but I do recall a couple months ago there was an interest buyer but they were trying to hammer out details.  Happy to see this happen, as I always see it every time I am in South Philly.

That is good news, or as we say down South when we hear good news "oh hell yeah". I can see my dream retirement job, tending bar on this liner.

My folks bought a plastic model of this ship when I was around 9 yoa. About 2 centuries ago. It was such a cool model and even in my eyes had beautiful lines to it. I've followed the journey of the United States since I found the website about 10  years or so ago. Glad it's gonna get re-born

I was a 10 year old kid living in Newport News in 1952 and attended the open house.  She was sparkling brand new and was, and can be again, a beauty.  I boarded her again in 1992 just before she was towed to Turkey to be gutted (which was done in the Ukraine).  They had less stringent, if any, EPA laws there and the ship was built in a time that asbestos was used extensively.  Also visited her in Philadelphia.  I started a scrap book in 1952 and included every article and picture for the next 50+ years.  The love affair that 10 year old kid had with that ship continues to this day with this 73 year old man.  My greatest fear was that she would be scrapped.  This is great news but it's  not a done deal.  A lot of things could still happen to derail this.  Where do I book my passage.  :)

I am a little younger but feet the same way. These new ships are nothing compared to the big U Rock walls & all. Lets see if Susan Gibbs can get this done. Her DNA is of her grandpa's so I will bet on her. If I can pay for it book me a cabin
