My opinion, it depends on what the main reason for the gun is going to be.If you're looking for something to do some plinking at the range, then a .22 is super affordable as ammo is inexpensive. You can spend a day at the range and not blow the bank account. It can also be used as a lighter home defense weapon.If you're looking for something that packs more punch for home defense, but still relatively affordable for the range, then a .357 is the way to go. You can use .38 rounds for a little less kick.
