Off to the Gun Range
« Reply #-1 on: September 03, 2016, 07:49:07 AM »
If I had to guess, I'd bet there are a few hunters/gun enthusiasts on here. I don't hunt but I do like to plink! Steph and I both are CCW holders and it's good to stay in practice. Our Son has been wanting to go to the range for a while and since he's off today, we're going to make a little trip to shoot some holes in some bad guy targets. I don't think that I'm going to take any of my rifles, although I do need to bore sight my AR-15 to dial in its stupid scope. I've been slingin' lead down field, not doing a very good job of hitting what I am aiming at, lol.

I think today will just be 9mm and .40 practice. Easy to carry those. Usually we go out for burgers at a little diner called "Hot Rod's Cafe" or something close to that. It's a 50's dealio, cool place and the food is overpriced but decent. Might get a chocolate shake to go with that burger, who knows? Should be fun.

I'm lucky.  We have a Meggit system in my office about 20' from my desk.  In addition to the judgemental use of force senerios (hundreds of them), it has a ton of range and speed drills.  Nothing beats trigger time for skill building.  And before someone asks, it's a $80,000 system so although it would make a great man cave addition, it don't come cheap.  But to operate it is only pennies.  The system uses 3,000psi compressed air to charge the "magazines" and you do get functionality and cycling of firearms with actual recoil effect.  Air can be refilled at any dive shop and a tank lasts a looooong time.

Zip forward to about 43 seconds in this Youtube video (if the url is not already there) and you see what I'm talking about.

Yep, on a slow or rainy day I just walk down the hall and fire up the controlling laptop and air up some magazines.  It's always sunny and nice temps on the Meggit range!  No gnats either...

Oh, they also have a cool flashlight function for low light or night training.  It blacks out any senerio and wherever you point the special flashlight, it looks like the beam is on the screen.  It works with any of their senerios, and you can blink it just like a real streamlight (which it is based on and inside a housing of).  It is an IR flashlight and the computer puts the "beam" on the senerio.  The hits are scored with an IR laser in specially modified firearms.  We have the Glock's and the modified versions are about $7,000 a gun.  They also have AR's, shotguns, etc.... available.
