Crazy Heavy Rain and Oranges Lost
« Reply #-1 on: May 01, 2016, 11:16:12 AM »

Alright, so I got the grass cut yesterday and I was mainly concerned with the backyard and it was threatening yet hadn't rained by the time I finished the yard so I took the chance to get the front cut and cleaned and made it just in time. Actually I had cut, edged and cleaned up the front and sat down to cool off with a cold bottle of water and then the thunder started then the lightning. I checked on the chickens and went in for a much needed shower.
While cutting the yard I noticed hundreds of baby oranges(mostly blood oranges)on the ground. This rain and wind we've been having lately has knocked a few hundred potential oranges out of the trees. Now there were probably a few thousand blossoms and baby oranges on the trees a few weeks ago I guess nature eliminates some so the rest get grow bigger and better. It's still depressing to see the loss of so many potentially delicious oranges wasted. And it's even worse this morning after yesterday afternoons deluge which flooded streets. Yeah, all my meticulous cleaning after cutting the lawn was ruined by street flooding. After the water subsided I went out to find branches and leaves from neighbor's trees allover my front lawn. Even a big piece of sod from someone's law was laying on my lawn. Lol...... Had to go out and rake it all up this morning.

Here's some of what I picked up this morning.

That's definitely a bummer losing potential fruit like that. Our version up here would be an early warm-up, followed by the budding and then frost temps and/or snow and ice. Some trees can rebud but the yield is less. Spring is always unpredictable!  :-\

Well Cajun you got me to cut my grass!  I Havnt been down on the property where my fruit trees are for a couple weeks. And with all this rain that has been some happy grass!
I got worried so I took the mower down and cut around the trees. Luckily I only found a couple lemons on the ground. Still a couple dozen on the tree.
I ended up cutting all the grass once I got started so now the place looks pretty good just in time for this evenings rain...
