Welcome from So-Cal. If you want to have some consistent tasty Q using charcoal and wood chunks, ya might wanna give the Pit Barrel Cooker and/or the Weber Smokey Mountain the hairy eyeball..........
Smokeasaurus thanks for the idea about the PBC and from your welcome along with a few others hellos , i saw were PBC was part of their gear. I have used the PBC as kind of bench mark product for other drum smokers to meet or exceed its standard. I have researched the Big Poppa's cooking drum and i just cant see buying a kit here, drum here, and extras latter if it does not meet my needs. I also researched a cooker named "D Meat Barrel" from northern CA, which piqued my interest somewhat. But I could not find any user comments or ratings regarding that product. The D Meat Barrel, also appeared to have more hardware and food stations but again cost went up with the add on's. I have not read any bad reviews or disappointed with PBC the cooking process or results.
I have read conflicting testimonies regarding the use of wood and lump charcoal with the cooker. Have you attempted to use other than Kingsford charcoal briquet's. I must admit I find it hard to put $300 down on a garbage can that more of a cooker then a smoker. But then the light bulb came on. This may have great potential for a cold smoker using a smoke generator. Please , your thoughts and or opinions?
Thanks
